Summer holiday stress & our choice to go on a Family Yoga Retreat

People who travelled extensively before know the feeling – you can’t get used to a normal two or three week-long holiday anymore. We experienced the same this year. Since our return home last year October we had only travelled once, to Disney Land Paris during Spring Break, so in April we started to get really restless as we had not made any plans for the summer holidays. We considered to fly again to far-away sunny places like Mauritius or Hawaii or, what we really wanted, return to South Africa or maybe visit Tanzania. But each time when we started seriously planing one of...

Exclusive interview with The Great Family Leap

The Great Family Leap has been back in the Netherlands and we had the pleasure of interviewing Taco and Petra from The Great Family Leap about their adventure. How is it to be back in the Netherlands? “We are settling in quite well. It is great to have our own home and possessions back. We love the fact that we have a good extra long bed and the kids are thrilled with all their toys that they re-discovered. We explored many options: going back to the Big 5 private game reserve, fly to the Durban coast for a dose of sun or beach, take a trip to Mauritius for even more beach and sun, drive to Madikwe game reserve, fly back via Jordan, take a last minute trip to Namibia or maybe fly back home a few days earlier. But when we stopped thinking and started to feel...

How to fill four large suitcases and a bit more?

And the third and last post this week in our ‘Resources’ theme. Today’s topic is about all the stuff we carried along around the world. ================== When we were preparing our trip I was wondering what we would really use and need along the way. I browsed blogs of other traveling families and tried to figure out what would work for us. To assist others who are going to undertake a journey like ours, I decided to share what worked for us, the things we really used a lot and appreciated. This is not a list of all we’ve got with us, but just the things we were very happy...

Let’s talk about money

The second post this week in our ‘Resources’ theme – all you want to know about budget. ================= When dreaming about a Round The World trip one of the first things that people wonder about is budget and if they can afford it. In the FB group for traveling families that we have joined this is also one of the most common questions asked: “how much should we budget for a family of 4 that travels to A, B and C?” It is, however, also a very difficult question to answer as it really depends on where you travel and what your traveling style is. Staying in backpacker style...
