The last day @home

The last day @home

After six months of planning the time has now come that we are really starting our new adventure. The house is ready, the bags are packed, the to-do list almost empty and a cold spell has just arrived in the Netherlands, so it is time to fly-out and find the African sun. Tomorrow we will travel to a hotel close to Schiphol, where we will stay the last night, so we have time to say once more goodbye to the family. And then, Thursday morning we will start our journey and fly to South Africa. The country we so much love, we often call our second home and thus our first stop on this trip.

The last weeks have been hectic. Finishing everything at work, getting the house ready to be rented-out, packing and moving all our stuff to storage. Buying the last things we need. Booking and arranging the last critical pieces of our trip. Packing our bags, checking if we have everything we need for 10 months. Finishing this website. Buying some more stuff. Unpacking, repacking.

From other travelling families we have learned that the two most stressful moments of a long-term family travel are 1) the moment you make the decision to-go and 2) the last days before departure. But they also told us that once you are on the road, things calm down and you can start enjoying.

In a few days we will be relaxing at the most beautiful beach in Cape Town – we look forward to that!
