Can you bring young kids on a safari trip to Kruger?
Can you bring young kids on a safari trip? That’s the question we asked our selves when we started to think about our adventure in South Africa. We have been on safari’s numerous times with just the two of us and we know we like to be in the bush looking at wildlife. But long days in the car, boring if you don’t see a lot, short span of attention, hot days, cold nights……there are plenty of reasons why not to try this with kids. (more…)
Back home and still traveling?
Is it possible to have it all? How to go back ‘home’ while traveling
Coming from California and traveling to South Africa we had a choice. We could do two long haul flights in a row with our two kids in tow… or we could visit our home country, hug our direct family members and especially my sister, her husband and their brand new baby girl. But we were wondering, is it possible to have it all? Or would going back ‘home’ break our travel experience? (more…)
Highlights of San Diego
Several people had advised us that San Diego is the most child-friendly city in California hence we had decided to spent our last two weeks in the USA here. San Diego has dozens of attractions, wonderful weather year-around, and a great family vibe making this town a favourite holiday destination for parents. Key attractions are the Balboa park with some 14 musea and the famous Zoo, Legoland, Sea World, Safari Park, plenty of beaches, great scenery in Torrey Pines National reserve and interesting neighbourhoods to explore like Old Downtown, Coronado or Gaslamp Quarters. Disneyland California with toddlers
Disneyland advertises as being the happiest place on earth and thus we added it to our list of must-do’s for our trip to experience this for ourselves. Disneyland in California was the first Disney park created in 1955 and is the only one that was designed and build under the direct supervision of Walt Disney himself. Since 1955 more than 650 million visitors have visited this park, making this one of the world’s most populair theme parks ever. (more…)
Where to go when you have 7 weeks in Hawaii?
When we made plans for our round the world trip, Hawaii always was on the list. We like volcano’s so we wanted to see the youngest and most active volcano on earth and we would also like to experience some of the best beaches in the world. Also Hawaii makes a nice stop on a journey between New Zealand and the USA. So we booked a flight to Honolulu and a flight out of Honolulu 7 weeks later and didn’t make any plans for the time in between. (more…)
Taking toddlers to the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park
We stayed for a week in Pahoa on Hawai’i island. We really wanted to visit the Volcano national park and we had been waiting for ten months now to finally get here. The islands of Hawaii are all created by volcanic activity and here on Big Island you can still witness this creation. Over the course of a week we visited the park in total three times. When we researched for our trip we did find very little information on activities for toddlers, so here is our guide on taking young kids into the Volcano park. (more…)
Snorkeling with sea turtles
We love seeing wild animals in their own habitat. Be it the large herds of elephants in a game park in South Africa or the frolicking dolphins in New Zealand. And since yesterday we can add one more species to the list as we snorkelled with green sea turtles in Hawaii. (more…)
Knocked out in Kauai
No – the title of this blog is not meant as a metaphor, that Kauai is so stunning that we are knocked out by it (which would be true by the way). No, we are literally knocked out. Not sure what it is, a nasty virus, the still strongly blowing trade winds, the toll of being on the road for several months now, are the combination of all of the above. (more…)
Windy Oahu
In Hawaii they have the saying that you should adjust to island time. Meaning that everything moves a bit slower here than at mainland US. Well we must have adjusted quickly to island time, as we just realised that we have been already on Hawaii for more than a week and we have not yet written any blog on this site. (more…)
