5 star luxury in the Nambiti private game reserve
On a typical day at Elephant Rock lodge in Nambiti the alarm is set at 6am. The morning game drive leaves just before the sun rises and this is the best time of the day to see the big cats in action. Also the first and last hour of the day do bring the best light for photography, so you need to rise at dawn (luckily it is winter, in summer dawn starts before 5am). We let Emily sleep and Petra stays with her so it is just me and Lucas this time. The other guests gather as wel and we all climb in the vehicle, ready for a new day. The lions have been active last night so our ranger Stephanie...

Can you bring young kids on a safari trip? That’s the question we asked our selves when we started to think about our adventure in South Africa. We have been on safari’s numerous times with just the two of us and we know we like to be in the bush looking at wildlife. But long days in the car, boring if you don’t see a lot, short span of attention, hot days, cold nights……there are plenty of reasons why not to try this with kids. But we also know that many South Africans do bring their kids and by doing so they instil a love for nature and wildlife into their kids hearts and minds. This is one...

Today is my 42th birthday and I am celebrating it far away from home and I am deeply happy. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate this day than sitting on the porch having dinner with my family, while a group of elephants is slowly making their way down from the hill towards the water pool in front of our house. We spend the last week of our South Africa trip in the Addo Elephant National Park. Addo is the largest wildlife reserve in the Cape area and is famous for its elephants. This was my fourth visit to Addo and every time I visit it is getting better. Originally, back in the...

We have been to Tsitsikamma 3 times now, and it keeps amazing me how stunningly beautiful this place is. Tsitsikamma is part of the Garden Route National Park and is a coastal and marine conservation area. The ocean is wild, beating onto the rocks and creating huge fountains and a spectacle to watch any time of the day. The forest is ancient and is bathing the hills in a variety of greens. There are plenty of hiking trails, both short and (very) long. The Otter Trails passes trough here, which is known to be one of the most beautiful hikes in the world, and if you want to hike it you need to...

Tsitsikamma was great and we all felt a bit sad when we left the camp on Sunday. Luckily we were going to another great place and we are now close to Addo’s Elephant Park. We already drove through the park on our way towards the lodge and we have already seen the first elephants, zebra’s and other wildlife. But first Tsitsikamma – it was our third visit and each time we like it even more. The blog is not yet ready, but we have already uploaded the pictures, so you can have a peek at our life in Tsitsikamma. We will try to post the blog in the next couple of days....
