The Top 10 Things To Do In Montagu

This evening is our last evening in Montagu. Most people who come to visit Montagu only stay for one or two nights and only get a glimpse of life here in the Little Karoo. That is really a shame as this place has plenty of reasons to stay a little bit longer. We stayed here for two weeks and we loved every minute of it. We met wonderful local people and realized that many of them used to live in places like Cape Town, but have moved to Montagu to escape the hustle and bustle of big cities and live a much more relaxed life here. They now run galleries, a B&B or a farm here. After our two weeks here we can understand why, as this place has something special.

Sharing from the heart

Sharing from the heart

One of the desires I have felt in my heart for a long time is to write. To share with the world the inner chambers of my experience, in all it’s vulnerability, in the expectation that the sharing from my heart will touch those who are aligned and that it will spread love and light, inspiration and joy.

Doing this takes courage and it is something, I discovered, that does not work in baby steps. It requires a leap. So here I am, leaping, and trusting I will be okay at the other end of this extremely vulnerable expedition.

How to plan for a RTW trip – flights

It’s time for something different. This blog post today does not contain an update on our whereabouts, but is a blog for our new page resources. This post will show you our insights on how to buy your Round The World(RTW) tickets.

Many evenings and weekends were spent in preparing for our trip. Some people who decide to do a trip like this start planning two or three years ahead. We did it a bit faster, we made the decision that we wanted to travel for a year  in June 2014 and we left our home early December. So we had exactly 6 months to get ready for this adventure. The Milky Way is back

The Milky Way is back

Last night I was reading an article about a South African photographer, Ian van Straaten. He lives here in the Karoo and he has made it his mission to show the world the Milky Way. According to this interview about 80% of the world population will never see the Milky Way in their life, due to light pollution from cities. Ian has made it his mission to show the world the Milky Way and he gets up every night, drives around the Karoo and takes pictures of the sky filled with stars.

Grootbos

We are in Grootbos Nature Reserve for a few days of luxury and relaxation. Grootbos was one of the places on our bucket list for this trip. Enjoying the flora of the Fijnbos and old ancient caves near the sea. A magnificent place.

Playing tourist in Cape Town

Playing tourist in Cape Town

This week we feel more like tourists than travellers. There are so many nice things to do in Cape Town that you almost must leave your apartment and go somewhere. If you want you could stay for three months here and still not be bored. So what things should you do in Cape Town with two young kids? (more…)

From minus 1 to plus 30 degree celcius

This evening at 7 o’ clock we were all still playing in the pool and having great fun. The temperature was still around 25 degrees celcius and the sun was setting in the ocean. An almost perfect situation and we realised that to live moments like this, was one of the reasons we wanted to travel he world.

The last day @home

The last day @home

After six months of planning the time has now come that we are really starting our new adventure. The house is ready, the bags are packed, the to-do list almost empty and a cold spell has just arrived in the Netherlands, so it is time to fly-out and find the African sun. Tomorrow we will travel to a hotel close to Schiphol, where we will stay the last night, so we have time to say once more goodbye to the family. And then, Thursday morning we will start our journey and fly to South Africa. The country we so much love, we often call our second home and thus our first stop on this trip.
